GMO Practices

Manufacturer Communication

Lynn provides leeway to the large number of local vendors she purchases from whose products may contain GMOs, or who are transitioning to GMO-free ingredients. She questions manufacturers and distributors and encourages them to buy local as well. All the meats, eggs and raw milk come from farms that raise and finish their animals on pasture and are no further away than 250 miles.

Product Removal Process

The store carries very few GMO products. Lynn stopped carrying Back to Nature, Knudsen’s and other brands who's parent companies funded opposition to Prop 37, California’s GMO labeling initiative.

Labeling

Neighbors Market has just begun the process of labeling products that could potentially contain GMOs. In the meantime, employees talk to consumers about products that are likely to contain GMOs, and try to educate consumers at every opportunity. Lynn regularly posts on Facebook about GMOs and how to avoid them. The store is beginning the process of labeling products that could potentially contain GMOs.

What a great store you have! AND one of the Top 10 Right to Know stores in the Northwest. We in Roseville CA/Sacramento area have nothing like this. Even the Sacramento Food Co-Op can not be taken seriously, as their stores carry many items that contain GMO’s and are owned by the BIG AG people. BigAG cannot be trusted and are notorious for devious marketing practices. WAY TO GO! Maybe with more stores such as yours, our food supply will gain integrity through transparency and traceability.
