GMO Practices

Manufacturer Communication

Cliff buys only from suppliers who source exclusively non-GMO ingredients or are moving toward 100% GMO-free products. He requires written confirmation of GMO-free status from his major suppliers. If a product contains one or more suspect ingredients, such as corn, soy, sugar, oils, etc., Cliff asks the manufacturer for assurance that the products are GMO-free.

Product Removal Process

Cliff’s Country Market has eliminated most processed foods suspected of containing GMOs from the store’s inventory and will continue that process until the store carries no products that could potentially contain GMOs. The store houses two bakeries, a regular bakery and a gluten-free bakery. Both bakeries have reformulated their recipes to eliminate all GMO ingredients.

Labeling

The store buys many products in bulk and repackages them under its own label. The products that don't contain ingredients that could be from a genetically engineered source they label as "Naturally Non GMO" and "Contains 100% Non-GMO Sourced Ingredients." Cliff’s still carries some GMO products for which it hasn’t been able to 100% Non-GMO substitutes. Cliff is committed to having a label or shelf tag on everything he sells. This is an ongoing process that he started recently and has not yet been fully executed. He believes informing customers about the GMO status of the store’s products is his most important commitment as a grocer. Cliff's Country Market is a Non-GMO Project Participating Retailer.
